The soil at Montrose Alpine Nursery consists of a tight sandy-loam clay and over the last 100 years the irrigated soil has prospered with potatoes, alfalfa, oats, barley and other crops.

Our native wholesale landscape trees

grow naturally with a tight root ball
in a completely natural alpine environment. Our colorado blue spruce trees are grown in this same soil and are exposed to elements of mother nature from the time they are planted as seedlings. Wind, Rain, Sun, Ice, Sun and Summer Heat -- our colorado blue spruce trees have made it through the worst that mother nature has to offer! That means transplant survival is very high!
